- Ski racing is a sport that relies heavily on volunteers
- It takes 30-40 volunteers to put on a race!
- The National Capital Division, including Calabogie, has a regional and provincial reputation for having an excellent, committed and experienced volunteer pool
- In the 2014-15 season, 80% of all parents/guardians, representing 90% of all athlete families, volunteered for at least one event
- Parents are expected to volunteer to the extent allowed by their life situations
- 90% of volunteering is about making sure the athletes are training and racing in a safe environment
- Anyone, with or without ski (racing) experience, can help:
- Administrative roles (registration, announcer, scoreboard, bib collection, ...)
- Technical roles (course crew, gate judging, start, finish, timing, ...)
- Pre-event organization (course setup, logistics, ...)
- Technical roles require certification as an official
- All parents should obtain a minimum Level 1 official certification
- Experienced officials should seek Level 2+ certification in order to take on leadership roles
- CSRC will offer a Level 1 Officials Certification Course before the start of race season
- Officials/volunteers need to be registered as such on the AOA website for insurance reasons
